Greetings TSAOHN members,
As we settle comfortably into 2023 the Board of Directors would like to thank you for continuing to support TSAOHN through your membership, service and commitment to the role of the OHN.
To recap the board activities for the last quarter of 2022 and beginning of 2023:
- We held our first, in person, conference since 2019, November 4 & 5, 2022. Despite decreased attendance, compared to previous conferences, we met our objective of providing 10 CEUs to the membership. We were pleased with the feedback provided by those that attended. They indicated that the speakers were dynamic, the venue was beautiful and well received, and our loyal vendors were there to support us as they have for so many years.
- We were able to present the bylaws revisions to the membership at the business meeting and they were unanimously accepted. Those will be updated and published very soon.
- We presented some fantastic candidates during the 2022 election and are happy to announce the new 2023 Board of Directors members, Secretary-Julia Reyes, Director of Governmental Affairs/Bylaws/Policy and Procedure-Henry Guevara and reelected Director of Awards/Recognition/Benevolence-Karen Parker. Additionally we are welcoming a new Treasurer to complete the 2023 term, Levinda Walpole, through a vote of the board of directors.
- The Board of Directors met January 6 & 7, 2023 for new board member orientation, installation of officers and first board meeting of 2023. We successfully updated our 2023 Business Plan and updated the goals that support our mission statement. We created ad hoc committees to look into membership retention and community engagement. The board will be visiting the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at the University of Texas at Austin on April 28, 2023. The TSAOHN archive is housed at the Dolph Briscoe Center and has not been visited by the Board of Directors in the past 10 years. We are very excited about this visit. We are planning to view the collection and also planning to donate additional items for future reference to the Texas State Association of Occupational Health Nurses.
The Board continues to work through and update the TSAOHN Policy and Procedure Manual to reflect our most up to date practices where by future board members will have a dynamic reference to assist them in successful completion of their job responsibilities.
If any of you will be attending the National Conference in San Antonio, Texas March 13-15, 2023, I hope to see you there, I will be attending and representing the Texas State Association of Occupational Health Nurses with pride and joy.
Our Election Advisor, Mary Garrison, is actively seeking nominees to run for open board positions for the 2023 election, please consider volunteering and serving your fellow OHNs, your service to the organization would be greatly appreciated and you will be rewarded through your service.
Respectfully,
Melinda Cordova
President of TSAOHN
