The TSAOHN Leadership Award is an educational grant to TSAOHN sponsored by Medique and presented in the name of the award recipient. The award is inscribed with the name of the recipient, and presented at either the Biennial Fall Conference or, on the year without a conference, it is presented in the fall through the award recipient’s chapter.

Purpose

• To provide recognition for the outstanding services of occupational health nurses at the state level.
• To enhance the educational program activities of the cooperating state and regional association through a Medique grant.
• To inspire those in the profession to enrich their careers.

Eligibility

• The nominee must be a registered nurse employed full time in occupational health nursing with a minimum of ten years experience.
• The nominee must be a member of the Texas State Association.
• The nominee shall NOT have been a previous recipient of the award.
• The nominee shall have made outstanding contributions to occupational health nursing in either the organizational, educational, community or worksite programs and activities.
• The emphasis of the Medique Leadership Award is on leadership roles/qualities demonstrated in occupational health nursing and the community.

Instructions

• Complete attached nomination form and submit to the Director of Awards/Recognition/Benevolence via the online application portal. Deadline for Nominations has been extended thru Nov 1, 2023. (Nomination forms received after the due date specified on the form will be disqualified.)
• 2 Letters of Recommendations that address the candidate’s leadership initiative, motivation, professionalism, creativity, commitment and contribution to the profession. . (Letters of Recommendation received after the due date specified on the form will be disqualified.)

Selection Process

• The selection of the nurse shall be made by a judging committee selected by the Director of Awards/Recognition/Benevolence. The committee consists of three (3) occupational health nurses. Members of the judging committee may serve for two (2) year terms. Committee members may be eligible for re-appointment.
• Identifying information will be omitted from copies of Application prior to sending them to the judging committee.
• Prior to the presentation of the plaque, the name of the person selected to receive the award shall not be revealed except to the appropriate representative of the sponsoring company or others as may be deemed necessary by the Director of Awards/Recognition/Benevolence.

Judging Criteria

• 50% Community Involvement
• 30% Outstanding Contributions to the profession at the worksite
• 20 % ‘Reference Letters’ addressing leadership initiative, motivation, professionalism, creativity, commitment and contribution to the profession.
