Position Overview:

Vidant Health, a premier, mission-driven, not-for-profit, 9-hospital system that has been recognized by US News & World Report as one of the nation’s Best Hospitals, announces a national search for a System Director, Occupational & Employee Health. The System Director will serve as the top leader for the Occupational & Employee Health program across the entire Vidant Health system which includes occupational health services, workers compensation clinic, as well as the business/industry team.

The System Director, Occupational & Employee Health will report directly to the Administrator for Vidant Corporate Health Services as well as the Medical Director of the program and provide key strategic and daily operational oversight for all occupational & employee health services. The System Director will have a nursing background and experience in occupational health and workers compensation. He/She will be seen as the content expert for occupational & employee health in the system and will continue to elevate the services provided, ensure financial stewardship, and ultimately manage its practices to support operational excellence. The System Director will manage the overall program including the occupational health clinic, workers comp, outlying deployed staff to industries, the drug screen program, Covid matters, and collaborate with Insight / Risk / and MRO as needed. The Director will set expectations, develop plans and implement procedures to assess and improve the quality of services delivered in occupational health (pre-employment, annual surveillance, drug testing, and return to work), workers compensation, team member safety, OSHA compliance, ADA accommodations for team members, and infection control and blood exposures.

The System Director will ensure the division continues to meet the ongoing needs of the health system through the management of all Covid related matters for team members, including testing, contact tracing, exposure management, data analysis, OSHA ETS for Covid, and implementation of the mandatory vaccination campaign deadline of December 1, 2021. The System Director will ensure alignment with the health system’s strategic, operational, financial stewardship, and cultural goals that support the Mission, Vision, and Values of Vidant Health. He/She will assess and build the occupational health team and provide proper training to team members in the division.

The System Director will be seen as an experienced, personable, highly credible, high integrity, nurse leader who will make a meaningful and positive impact on the organization and be highly visible. The ideal candidate will bring at least five years leadership and management experience in a hospital/complex setting including involvement in budgetary process, personnel management, long- and short-term planning, and demonstrated experience in occupational health. He/she will bring a strong business acumen with proven ability to set and achieve goals through the establishment and improvement of key performance metrics. He/She must be an organized, collaborative, team-oriented leader who is politically astute and adept at working in a complex organization.
