The Occupational Health Nurse has responsibility for implementing, coordinating, and communicating health and medical activities such as medical case management, regulatory compliance, and health services. The position oversees and manages the administrative and operational activities of all occupational health services in a local territory.
Accountabilities:
- Serve as clinical resource, providing case management services for injury, illness, and reportable health events.
- Provide support for work units on all issues related to health and medical services including accommodations, return to work, restricted duty, and transitional work.
- Provide case management services for both on-duty and off-duty injury/illness including follow-up and referrals, acting as gatekeeper for health services, rehabilitation, return to work and case management issues.
- Demonstrate compliance with laws and regulations governing nursing practice.
- Coordinate onsite occupational health testing including scheduling of mobile testing units, onsite regulatory testing and additional testing when requested by Health and Medical Services.
- Lend assistance to Health and Medical Services senior management regarding a wide range of health services and activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Required):
- An Associate’s degree in Nursing, or a higher-level degree in Nursing (Bachelor’s, Master’s, etc.)
- Valid driver’s license
- Certified and/or licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state where located
- CCM required or obtained within 6 months of hire
Qualifications (Preferred):
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing
- 5 or more years experience in general nursing
- 3 or more years experience in disability management practices and return to work techniques
- 5 or more years of experience in the following medical areas: acute care, hospital and emergency services, nursing homes, occupational health, and/or community health
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee will spend extended hours in front of a computer screen
- The person in this position frequently communicates with customers and coworkers in person or by telephone
- Work Conditions
- 18 years of age or older
- Travel 50% of the time
- Individuals hired to work in this position will be expected to work on-call 24/7 Monday – Friday and rotate weekends
Work Conditions: Must be located within 50 miles of one the work locations specified in this job posting, or be willing to relocate to the location under Union Pacific’s paid relocation program.
